Alhambra : Council OKs Demolition
The City Council, acting as the Alhambra Redevelopment Agency Board, has approved the demolition of vacant buildings on a downtown corner to make way for a new shopping center.
Five council members voted unanimously last week to let a developer, Camden Group Ltd., tear down the four dilapidated buildings at Chapel Avenue and Main Street to make way for the Alhambra Courtyard Project.
The demolition is the first stage of the project, which will include a Ralphs supermarket and a number of small shops.
Construction on the shopping center is scheduled to begin in January and is expected to be completed by June.
