Pasadena : Parking Meters in Old Town

Share

Visitors to Old Town Pasadena now have to pay to park on the street.

A quarter buys 15 minutes of parking along the curbs of the upscale shopping district. Last week the city installed 770 parking meters along Colorado Boulevard and side streets.

The City Council approved metered parking last year after a request from the Old Pasadena Business & Professional Assn.

The meters are intended to encourage shop employees to use parking structures instead of curbside parking, said Serop Der-Boghossian, the city’s traffic and transportation administrator.

Meter violations will be enforced seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. An additional 330 meters will be installed in the Civic Center area in the next few weeks. Those meters will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Violators will receive warning notices in the next few weeks, and after that will be assessed $25 fines.

The $850,000 a year income expected from the meters will be used for policing and improving the Old Pasadena area, Der-Boghossian said.
