COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Shut Out San Diego State
Cal State Fullerton snapped a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over San Diego State in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer opener for both teams Sunday at San Diego.
Eddie Soto scored midway in the first half for the Titans (8-3, 1-0). It was the fourth consecutive game in which Soto has scored for Fullerton, which started the week ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Mike Ammann made six saves to earn the shutout for Fullerton. San Diego State is 3-6, 0-1.
In the Stanford men’s soccer tournament:
San Francisco 4, UC Irvine 2--Bret Cowan scored in the first half and P.J. Polowski scored a minute into the second half as UC Irvine (4-7) built a 2-0 lead. But San Francisco (6-2-2) rallied behind two goals from Cato Solberg and one each by Josh McKay and Chris McDonald.
Polowski’s goal was his ninth of the season for UC Irvine, which plays host to Nevada Las Vegas at 7 p.m. Friday.
