* In her Sept. 24 article “On-Line, and Maybe Out of Line,” on the uses and abuses of E-mail, Janny Scott reports that a researcher found that communicating via computer “contributed to bonding” and “made users feel they were getting to know each other in a particularly intimate way.” Isn’t it rather wonderful to observe how new technology has reintroduced us to the joys of writing?

* Unfortunately, the article on E-mail did not mention the serious infringements upon our Constitutional rights in the electronic medium. The U.S. Constitution guarantees a right to free speech (Amendment I). The California Constitution guarantees a right to free speech and a right to privacy (Article I). It seems that these rights are not being applied to electronic forms of communication. Our bosses can’t rifle through our mail, how come they can through our E-mail?
