The Ventura County Alliance of Taxpayers will sponsor a public forum Thursday for candidates campaigning for four seats on the Ventura City Council.

The forum will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. in the auditorium of Ventura High School, 2155 E. Main St., Ventura.

Three incumbents--Todd Collart, Jim Monahan and Gary Tuttle--are seeking reelection, while a fourth council member, Cathy Bean, has decided not to run.

Running against the incumbents are Steve Bennett, high school teacher; Nancy Cloutier, publisher; Neil Demers-Grey, secretary; Charles Kistner, political consultant; Dick Massa, medical supply company owner; Rosa Lee Measures, former banker; Clark Owens, real estate broker; Brian Lee Rencher, college student; Ken Schmitz, accountant; and Virginia Weber, educational administrator.

Alliance President Jere Robings will moderate the public forum; questions from the audience will be allowed.

“Taxes are on everyone’s mind, and the candidates will have ample opportunity to discuss their position on issues that impact the taxpayers of Ventura,” Robings said. “This forum is timed to provide the voters with a last look before they vote by absentee ballot.”
