CAMARILLO : Jogathon to Raise Funds for School
At Las Colinas School in Camarillo, even the kindergartners have to do their part to raise money for school activities.
The school is having its fourth annual fund-raiser Friday, a jogathon expected to raise tens of thousands of dollars.
All of the school’s 1,100 kindergarten-through-eighth grade students will participate, Principal Dianne Quinby-Anders said.
The oldest children will run, or if they prefer, walk, around a school field for 45 minutes to raise money pledged to them by family and friends. The younger children jog or walk around a smaller field, Quinby-Anders said. “The little ones just go a short time,” she said.
Last year, donations averaged about $40 per child, raising $44,000. Las Colinas used the money for taking field trips and for bringing artistic groups such as a mime and a children’s theater troupe to perform at the school.
This year the school may use some of the money it raises to build a lunch shelter, Quinby-Anders said. For more information, call Jan Radnoti at 987-8052.
