Few Things Are Peachy About Farmers Market
- Share via
On Sept. 30 we went to the Fullerton Market on Wilshire Avenue, eager for the fresh produce and prices you depicted in your cover story (“Fresh Information: A Tour of Farmers Markets,” Sept. 30).
Arriving at 4:20 p.m., we found what produce there was wilted--most not worth purchasing at any price--and prices were far above retail markets. While we picked over what few peaches there were (for a pie), the vendor apologized for what was left from the day before--at the Fullerton Certified Farmers Market on Orangethorpe (Avenue)--and gave them all to us since they were only fit for cooking. The “fresh” eggs were medium, marked large, and at shaking several it was evident they had sat in the sun too long. Best buy were the avocados--huge and the best-tasting in years.
As for the rest of the market, it was a flea/garage/clear-out sale.
