Ford, UAW Resolve Dispute: The auto maker and the United Auto Workers said they reached an accord over an issue that had scuttled the signing of a new three-year contract. Neither Ford nor UAW spokesmen would discuss details of the settlement, which involved two new paid holidays. The union demanded that the holidays, around Independence Day in 1995 and 1996, not fall during Ford’s two-week plant shutdown, typically the first two weeks in July.
