OXNARD : Boat Launch to Receive Face Lift

Share

The six-lane boat launch at Channel Islands Harbor will get a $200,000 face lift to reseal chipped concrete and shore up a rusted reinforcement bar, state officials said Friday.

The state’s seven-member Boating and Waterways Commission approved the grant award at its regular meeting in Santa Cruz on Thursday, said Don Waltz, acting facilities director of the Boating and Waterways Department.

As the concrete surface of the boat launch chipped away, the steel reinforcement bar underneath became rusted, Waltz said. Officials also plan to replace three worn boarding floats around the launch, he said.

The harbor’s proposal was selected because the boat launch is heavily used and the remedy is cost-effective, Waltz said. The boat launch is at the end of Victoria Avenue across from the harbor peninsula.

Money for the grant comes from voter-approved gas taxes earmarked for harbor and waterway improvements, Waltz said. The state annually administers about $30 million in grants from the fund, he said.
