In case you thought the “MTV Unplugged” concept had peaked, look who’s lined up for the acoustic showcase: Nirvana and Duran Duran are both set for mid-November tapings at a New York soundstage. Each session may result in album and home video releases. . . .

Director Jonathan Demme, who is known for getting big names to contribute to his film soundtracks, has lined up Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young to each give new tracks to the upcoming “Philadelphia,” starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. . . .

Victoria Williams has signed with Atlantic-distributed Mammoth Records, which will reissue her 1991 Rough Trade album “Swing the Statue.” Williams, who is the subject of the recent “Sweet Relief” tribute album, is currently working on a new album. . . .

The release of the home video collection “Michael Jackson: Dangerous--The Short Films” has been indefinitely postponed. The big attraction of the package--originally planned for Christmas season--is previously unreleased “short films” built around the songs “Gone Too Soon” and “Who Is It.” . . .

Howard Jones’ new “Working in the Backroom” album of casual home recordings will be sold only at his concerts, with each one signed by the performer. The English musician’s one-man tour comes to the Troubadour on Nov. 9. . . .

Del Tha Funky Homosapien’s second album, “No Need for Alarm,” is due next month. The rapper is paired with Dinosaur Jr. on “Missing Link,” a track on the new “Judgment Night” soundtrack. . . .
