The Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts...

The Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts kicks off its fall Children’s Series with “Mur Mur,” an acrobatic play by Montreal’s renowned DynamO Theatre.

“Mur Mur,” French for “the wall,” features five actor-acrobats who soar, tumble, jump, slide and ricochet off a huge wall. The wall is a focal point for four teen-agers and a younger brother as they discover love and the importance of friendship--recounted through electrifying acrobatic movements.

The idea for “Mur Mur” came from the query: “When we think of a wall, what springs to mind?”

The troupe members’ responses to the question inspired the show. The play has no single author but has evolved from the performers’ spontaneous physical reactions.

DynamO Theatre was founded in Montreal in 1981 as La Troupe Circus, a group incorporating gymnastics, clowns, masks and mime.

It is directed by Robert Dion, a co-founder of Le Cirque du Soleil, the French-Canadian theatrical acrobatic troupe. Dion also has been associated with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and the Theatre du Rideau Vert and the Theatre du Nouveau Monde in Montreal.

Troupe composer Francois Dupuis has been with DynamO since 1983. As an actor, he has performed with the Theatre du Trident and the Theatre de la Bordee in Quebec City. He was a clown for Cirque du Soleil’s 1992 Japanese tour.

After today’s show, actors will pose on the wall with theatergoers for free photos.

“Mur Mur” will be presented today at 1 and 4 p.m. at the theater, Crossfield Drive at Indian Peak Road in Rolling Hills Estates. Tickets are $12 and are available at the theater box office. Box office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m., and one hour before performances. Free parking is available next to the theater.
