Boeing to Close One 747 Line: The company said it plans to shut one of the jumbo jet’s two assembly lines in Everett, Wash., by year’s end as part of its previously announced plan to pare its overall production in the face of slumping orders. Boeing expects to slow 747 output to three planes a month by mid-1994 from a peak of 5.5 in 1989. Overall, Boeing this year plans to cut about 11,000 jobs from its Seattle-area work force, which totaled about 98,000 at the start of 1993.
