In its first year of publication, the city newsletter has won second place in a national competition.

The City-County-Communications and Marketing Assn. gave the award to the city recently at its national conference in Washington, said Don White, city administrative services director.

Laguna Hills competed in the special publications category for cities under 50,000 population.

“One of the things that we were especially pleased with is that this is basically an internally generated newsletter,” White said.

The city staff does all the picture-taking and writing and chooses most of the design elements in the newsletter. The city also hires an artist, printer and consultant to assist in publishing.

Two issues, with about 8,000 copies each, have been published this year. The city plans to continue printing an issue every six months, White said.
