NORTHRIDGE : CSUN’s Wilson Joins Panel on Women

Share

Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan on Friday appointed Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson to the city’s Commission on the Status of Women.

The appointment makes Wilson the latest of about a dozen San Fernando Valley residents appointed to key city commissions. About 35% of Riordan’s appointments thus far have gone to Valley residents, compared to about 20% under former Mayor Tom Bradley.

Wilson’s tenure on the panel will begin immediately and is expected to continue for five years. She was not available to comment but a spokeswoman for the university said Wilson “hopes this appointment will provide her an opportunity in sharing her experience as a woman in higher education.”

The seven-member commission advises the mayor and City Council on the problems of women, particularly those in city government, and offers programs to improve their ability to pursue goals without discrimination.
