Diversity on Stage

Share

A free noontime banda concert, two evening shows featuring Latino performers and a traditional Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) procession are among the events planned during the Music Center of Los Angeles County’s Cultural Diversity Week, beginning Monday.

The six days of diverse music, theater and dance activities are samples of school and community programs regularly offered by the Music Center. During the early part of the week, performers will visit elementary and middle schools throughout the county to perform and host workshops.

Capping off the week will be several public events, beginning with a free noon concert by Banda Gatillo on Thursday at the Music Center Plaza. Local Latino performance artists and musicians will present “Out in Front: Otra Vez” at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mark Taper Forum.

Finally, Dia de los Muertos, a day for honoring the dead and celebrating life, will be commemorated with activities beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mark Taper Forum. Free workshops on face and T-shirt painting and mask and banner creation will be offered, and a traditional procession will begin at 2 p.m.

On Saturday night, a comedy show at the Mark Taper Forum will benefit the Latino Theatre Lab.
