Schools Should Not Be Day-Care Centers

Share

* The cupboard is bare, the state and schools are bankrupt. It is not difficult to see why. I do not approve of our tax dollars going toward free after-school baby-sitting till 6 p.m. for the L.A. Best Program, involving 19 schools at a cost of more than $2 million annually.

The Metrolink station to be built in Chatsworth will include a day-care center at a cost of $1.3 million. Free baby-sitting and playpens at Metrolink stations will not bring responsibility or improvement to parents or our schools. I support public education, but wasting our tax dollars to have our schools now take on the additional job of taking care of the parents’ children after school will not make for better schools or parents.
