NHL ROUNDUP : Oilers Work Overtime for the Victory

Kelly Miller’s goal at 1:26 of overtime Sunday night gave the Washington Capitals a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Edmonton.

The victory, the Capitals’ first in five road games, extended their win streak to three games.

The Oilers, who have lost five in a row, are 0-7-1 in their last eight games after opening with two victories.

Miller took a pass from defenseman Kevin Hatcher and beat goaltender Bill Ranford from the faceoff circle for the game-winner.

Oiler right winger Zdeno Ciger tied the score at 6:18 of the third period to force overtime.

Ciger’s second goal of the night came on the power play off a perfect setup from center Doug Weight. Ciger took a pass from Weight at the side of the Washington net and tucked a hard wrist shot between the post and goaltender Don Beaupre for his fourth of the season.

His goal came 2:04 after Capitals defenseman Sylvain Cote gave Washington a 2-1 lead.

Vancouver 3, San Jose 2--Geoff Courtnall scored 28 seconds into overtime, giving the Canucks the victory at Vancouver.

Courtnall’s goal came off assists from Trevor Linden and Cliff Ronning. Linden also scored the Canucks’ second goal.

Bob Errey of the Sharks had tied the score, 2-2, with a goal at 16:15 of the third period.
