Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s largest distributor of microcomputer parts, said Monday that it had record third-quarter sales, despite a weak global economy.

Ingram Micro, based in Santa Ana, said its revenue for the third quarter was $984 million, a 46% increase over $674 million for the same period last year.

For the first nine months of the year, Ingram Micro posted revenue of $2.8 billion, compared to revenue of $1.9 billion last year.

The privately held company did not release earnings figures.

Ingram Micro attributed the sales increase in part to several acquisitions completed earlier this year. In July, the company bought Zaventem Electronic Deal Distribution in Belgium. Also this year, it has purchased Ingram Dicom in Mexico, Ingram Micro GMBH in Germany and Terminal Five in the United Kingdom.

The company also reported strong sales in Canada.

Ingram Micro sells both software and hardware parts to such vendors as Microsoft Corp., NEC Corp., Toshiba, Panasonic, Hewlett-Packard and Lotus Development Corp. It has subsidiaries in England, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
