Cal State Fullerton announced Tuesday that John Wooden, former UCLA basketball coach, will deliver the keynote address at the school’s annual athletic department fund-raising auction next spring.

The university’s “A Bid of Excitement,” sponsored by the Titan Athletic Foundation, will be April 30.

Fullerton basketball Coach Brad Holland is the last player Wooden recruited before retiring in 1975.

“We approached Brad and encouraged him to see if he could get (Wooden),” said Larry Zucker, executive director of the Titan Athletic Foundation.

Wooden, 83, won 10 NCAA championships and had a 620-147 record in 27 seasons as UCLA’s coach.

Tommy Lasorda and Bobby Knight spoke at the first two Titan auctions. After netting $47,000 two years ago and $87,000 last year, school officials hope to raise $100,000 this year.
