Little Lake Schools : Educator Among 5 to Get State’s Top Teaching Award
A middle school teacher in the Little Lake School District has received the state’s most prestigious teaching award.
Beth Cassford, 41, ofLakeside Middle School in Norwalk is one of five California educators to be honored as a teacher of the year by the state Department of Education. The teachers were selected from 57 semifinalists.
Cassford teaches English, language arts, history and social science to seventh- and eighth-grade students, coordinates a language arts program and has served as a district mentor teacher. Her classrooms include students of varying abilities, from the gifted to those who require special education. Others have a limited English vocabulary. She has worked for the school district for 18 years.
Two other Southeast-area teachers were semifinalists. They are James T. Cross of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower and Patricia N. Hodges of California High School in Whittier.
