Police arrested a 27-year-old Garden Grove man Thursday in connection with a shooting last week of three young men, one fatally, in front of a Vietnamese coffee shop.

Phuong Phuc Le was arrested without incident on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, police Capt. William De Nisi said.

Le was booked on a no-bail warrant citing the charge of murder with special circumstances, which could mean the death penalty if he is convicted, De Nisi said.

The shooting took place Oct. 20 outside the Gai Hoi Cafe in the 9100 block of Edinger Avenue, near Magnolia Street.

Someone in a moving car fired several shots at a group of men leaving the shop, police said. One man was hit outside the cafe, scattering the rest of the people in his group. About a block away, between Wintergreen Circle and Sweetleaf Street, two of the fleeing men were also shot from the car.

Tu Anh Nguyen, 19, of Garden Grove was shot in the head and died later that night. The other victims, in their early 20s, are recovering from wounds to the neck and foot, police said. They have not been identified.

De Nisi said investigators believe the incident was gang-related. The investigation is continuing, he said.
