OFF AND ON: “Lollapalooza” organizers have met with Smashing Pumpkins and the Beastie Boys about possibly co-headlining the ’94 trek, but any decisions about the lineup are still a ways off. . . .

The proposed U.S. tour of the reunited Velvet Underground has been scrapped due to conflicts between members Lou Reed and John Cale over “certain production issues.” An official statement from Reed’s manager, his wife Sylvia Reed, says, “Lou feels he accomplished what he set out to do with the European shows. . . . That being done, he intends to return to his solo work.”
