OXNARD : Officer Finds Dead Man in Crosswalk

Share

An Oxnard police officer on routine patrol found an unidentified man dead in a crosswalk early Sunday, the apparent victim of a hit-and-run driver, officials said.

Officer Ron Zavala reported finding the body in the intersection of 5th Street and Victoria Avenue about 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Zavala notified traffic investigators, who determined that the man had been struck by a vehicle, Oxnard Police Sgt. John Crombach said. There was no word on how long the man had been in the intersection, and no one reported the accident to authorities, Crombach said.

Officials at the Ventura County coroner’s office are looking to the public to help identify the man. Senior Deputy Coroner Zelmira Isaac said the pedestrian--who was found without any identification--is a white male in his early 30s.

He was wearing black pants, a dark sweater and white tennis shoes, Isaac said. He also had a full mustache, shoulder-length black hair and dark eyes, she said.

“His clothes were in a good state of repair,” she said.

The man also had a surgical scar on his right ankle and another scar on the right side of his torso, Isaac said.
