VAN NUYS : Burglary Protection to Be Focus of Session

Share

Ways to protect a business from burglaries will be the subject of the Van Nuys Boulevard Business Watch meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in Van Nuys.

Police say the burglary discussion, held in the roll call room of the Van Nuys Police Station at 6240 Sylmar Ave. will help businesses prepare for the holiday season, when burglaries tend to rise.

“All crimes increase toward the holidays,” said Detective Sherry Santor, burglary coordinator for the Van Nuys Division. “There’s greater sales in the black market. Everybody’s interested in a bargain.”

Dr. Barry Leonard, president of the 60-member business watch, said the concerns among businesses have increased this year with the growing number of transients.

“With more transients, they’re worried about desperate people doing desperate acts,” said Leonard, a physician who practices on Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City.

“The thieves gotta do their Christmas shopping too,” Santor said.

The meeting is free and open to businesses along Van Nuys Boulevard.
