Steve Spurrier’s complaints about officiating of Florida games has attracted the attention of the Southeastern Conference, which sent the coach a letter urging him to stop the criticism.

The Gainesville Sun reported that Spurrier received a written reprimand from SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer for comments the coach made after the ninth-ranked Gators’ 38-35 loss at Auburn on Oct. 16.

Charlie Ward’s bruised ribs are improving and he took part in a light workout, Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden said. Ward threw lightly along the sidelines as the rest of the team practiced in preparation for Saturday’s game against Maryland.

Linebacker Derrick Brooks, who had been sidelined since the game against Miami because of tender nerves in his back and shoulder, received clearance to play Saturday.
