Ventura County sheriff’s deputies held up traffic along two blocks of Townsgate Road for more than two hours Wednesday after a man climbed a tree, apparently lit it ablaze and threatened to jump, officials said.
The man, who was taken into custody shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, was scheduled to be transferred to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for an unspecified injury to his leg received when he climbed down from the 100-foot tree, Sgt. Gregg Whitesell said.
Whitesell said the man would be investigated on suspicion of arson because of the tree burning, but may first be interviewed by psychologists to determine his state of mind.
