Share

USC wide receiver Johnnie Morton has broken so many pass-catching records this season it’s difficult to keep track of them. A recap:

Pacific 10--Most career receiving yards: 2,787; most receptions by a wide receiver, 180.

USC--Most receptions; most receiving yards; most single-season receiving yards, 1,106; most single-game receptions, 15 (vs. Houston, Sept. 4); most single-game receiving yards, 229 (vs. Washington State, Sept. 25); Most single-game touchdown catches (three, four times in past two seasons, tied with four others).

Morton can set two more single-season Pac-10 records with 12 receptions and 19 yards.

With one reception Saturday against Stanford, Morton will tie Erik Affholter’s 1988 school-record of 68 catches.

If USC is well-stocked at any position, it’s tight end. The senior starter is Brad Banta, who has 18 catches this season.

Behind Banta are John Allred (nine catches), Johnny McWilliams (11) and Tyler Cashman (16). Allred and little-used Jeff Diltz are freshmen; McWilliams and Cashman sophomores.
