Stern Sees Baloney That ‘Experts’ Can’t

Share

I just finished reading “Putting Howard Stern’s Audience on the Couch” (Oct. 28). This analysis of his audience is just the kind of baloney that Stern would be quick to put down. It is apparent these people do not listen to him and do not understand what he represents. The analysis of these psychologists was incorrect and does not represent me or many others who listen to him. The only people they fooled were probably their parents, who paid for their educations.

As in the article, there is a lot of baloney going around in this country, and Stern will call it. As politicians try to be politically correct, the country is going down in flames (literally here in L.A.).

He is not racist or anti-feminist. If he were, how do you explain the large number of females and blacks that stood in his line to have their copies of his book signed?

The only thing Stern is, is anti-stupid. He doesn’t care if you’re white, black or female. If you’re doing something stupid, to h*ll with being politically correct, you’re stupid!

David Kronke’s article quoting the psychologists who have diagnosed Stern’s listeners as angry, threatened, powerless and unable to deal with the changing world around them would be funny, if they didn’t take themselves so seriously. Their remote musings are exactly the kind of expertise that the show ridicules.

People listen for a simple reason. Stern is funny. Yes, he occasionally goes over the line, but everyone’s line is drawn differently. The psychologists’ “quick fix” insights tell us more about them than any generic listener of an essentially silly radio show.

The best thing to happen in 1993 was locating Stern’s popular radio program on KLSX-FM 97.1. (I listen from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.) Kudos to Andy Bloom, who was instrumental in bringing Howard to L.A. A day without Howard is like a day without oxygen! Sometimes he makes me cringe, but I forgive him. No one’s perfect, not even Stern, but he’s close to it. He makes the 45-minute ride to work enjoyable. Stern is honest, topical, funny and sexy.

We are white, male, well-educated, and we listen to Stern because we think he is very funny. The only thing we’re angry about is the insulting way the “experts” attempt to stereotype us.
