BALDWIN HILLS : Clothier Vacates Last Store, Plans Another

Entrepreneur Juan Armando Minniefield, who went from selling ties out of his car to owning three high-end men’s fashion boutiques, was ordered on Oct. 29 to move out of his last remaining store at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza by county marshals.

A Superior Court judge recently ordered Minniefield to pay the Alexander Haagen Co., owners of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, about $30,000 for failing to make $29,895 in lease payments this year, and to move out of the mall.

He was still upset with the Haagen Co. on Wednesday, the day he gave the keys back: “It was very unfair. They told me they would work with me (to pay the money owed), and when I got to court, they said no,” he said.

Andrew Natkaer of the Haagen Co. said the company negotiated a deal for Minniefield to pay his $500-a-week rent, but that Minniefield paid one week and stopped.

Minniefield, who moved his remaining inventory out of the store last weekend, said he plans to open another store in Compton or Beverly Hills.
