Training Funds OKd for Small Business

Nearly $300,000 in state funds has been approved for a training program to help owners of struggling small businesses in Ventura County.

Money for the county’s “Entrepreneur Academy” was recently approved by the California Employment Training Panel, a state agency that disburses money collected through the state’s Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The funding provides for 13 weeks of free classroom and field training for up to 300 business owners with fewer than 50 workers, said Hui Ling Tanouye, senior personnel analyst for the county.

Participants will attend a range of seminars and workshops offering an overview of business administration, from mission statements and marketing to operations and financial management. The program is set to begin in January.

“Basically we want to give employers the knowledge they need to stay in business,” Tanouye said.
