Reynolds Raises Cigarette Prices: The maker of Winston and Camel cigarettes made a peace offering in the tobacco price war by raising the price of its smokes by about 4 cents a pack. But industry analysts said it was too early to declare an end to the war, particularly since none of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.’s major competitors immediately matched its markups. The nation’s largest tobacco maker, Philip Morris USA, declined to comment on either its biggest rival’s move or its own pricing plans. Philip Morris started the price war in April by effectively reducing the price on the best-selling Marlboro brand by 40 cents a pack and later extending the markdown to its other premium brands.
