The Edmonton Oilers’ 11-game losing streak and 14-game winless stretch came to an end Tuesday night when they defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 4-2, at Detroit.

The Oilers, winless since opening the season with two victories, overcame a two goal first-period deficit with second-period goals by Steve Rice and Craig MacTavish, and third-period goals by Ilva Byakin and Igor Kravchik.

Winnipeg 5, N.Y. Islanders 2--Alexei Zhamnov scored three goals as the Jets snapped a five-game winless streak with a victory at Uniondale, N.Y.

Washington 2, Quebec 1--The Capitals stretched their winning streak to five games, rallying behind third-period goals Peter Bondra and Randy Burridge to defeat the Nordiques at Landover, Md.

St. Louis 3, Pittsburgh 3--Brett Hull’s second goal of the game helps Blues rally and extend their unbeaten streak to six games with a tie against the Penguins, who played without Mario Lemieux, at St. Louis.

San Jose 2, Toronto 2--Dave Ellett and Dave Andreychuk scored goals in the second and third period to give the Maple Leafs a tie at San Jose.
