JAZZ CD REVIEW : Ethnic Pianism From Aziza : ** 1/2; AZIZA; “AZIZA”; Columbia
- Share via
This is a pianist to watch, one of the many talented new improvising musicians emerging in unexpected parts of the world--in this case, Baku, Azerbaijan. Daughter of the organizer of the Baku Jazzfest, Aziza (Mustafa Zadeh) plays ethnic, rhythm-tinged piano with a coiled intensity, and enhances her already impressive potential with bristling, meter-crunching scat singing.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good, recommended), four stars (excellent).
