RETAIL

Compiled by Greg Johnson, Times staff writer

Shopping Tips: As the holidays approach, the National Retail Federation in Washington offers a slew of tips for shoppers.

1. Shop when stores are least crowded--during off hours and midweek.

2. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

3. Decide in advance on a gift budget.

4. Stick to the budget.

5. Have stores wrap presents when you buy them, and avoid the last-minute rush.

6. Have fun. “Stop along the way to treat yourself to hot chocolate or cappuccino,” the retail trade group recommends. “After all, ‘tis the season to be jolly.”
