LAGUNA BEACH : Local FEMA Office Will Close Sundays

Share

The local federal disaster application center will close on Sundays only, officials announced this week.

Three other federal disaster application centers will be closed.

The Laguna Beach office won’t be open this Sunday, and afterward the center will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Because new applications for federal relief have dwindled, Federal Emergency Management Agency officials said, they are consolidating services at locations in Laguna Beach, Arcadia and Malibu.

“Residents who have not yet applied for disaster assistance may visit any of the other (disaster application centers), which will continue operating until further notice,” said Frank Kishton, a FEMA spokesman. “However, the most convenient way for individuals to apply is through teleregistration” by phone at (800) 462-9029 or (800) 462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired.

Federal officials said they received 1,700 applications for assistance in Southern California. For more information regarding FEMA programs, call (800) 525-0321 or (800) 660-8005.
