Focus : THIRTY YEARS LATER, REMEMBERING J.F.K.

It was the end of Camelot. The end of innocence. America would never be the same again.

On Nov. 22, 1963, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated while his motorcade drove around Dallas’ Dealey Plaza.

Now, 30 years later, broadcast and cable networks are commemorating that fateful day with numerous specials and movies.

ABC

JFK: Reckless Youth: Patrick Dempsey (“In the Mood”) stars as the young Kennedy in a four-hour drama based on Nigel Hamilton’s 1992 bestseller. Nov. 21 and 23 at 9 p.m.

CBS

Jack: A behind-the-scenes look at JFK features never-before-heard personal interviews, archival footage and photographs. Wednesday at 9 p.m.

Who Killed JFK?: The Final Chapter: Dan Rather, who covered President Kennedy’s visit to Dallas, hosts a two-hour special, which, according to the network, contains original research and new techniques and technologies to provide fresh clues and final answers to who shot the President and who was behind the assassination. Friday at 9 p.m.

A Walton Thanksgiving: Set in 1963, this reunion movie finds John Boy (Richard Thomas) as a TV commentator and journalist covering the Kennedy assassination. Nov. 21 at 9 p.m.

Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald: In this drama, Marina Oswald Porter (Helena Bonham Carter), the widow of accused presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, reveals what she knows about the events surrounding the assassination. Monday at 9 p.m.

JFK: In His Own Words: A look at the private man as told in Kennedy’s own words from audio tapes. Monday at 9 p.m. on KVCR; 10 p.m., Tuesday at 1 a.m. and Friday at 1 a.m. on KPBS; Tuesday at 10 p.m. on KCET; Nov. 22 at 10 p.m. on KOCE.

Who Was Lee Harvey Oswald?: A three-hour “Frontline” investigative biography of the man who allegedly assassinated Kennedy. The special examines the psychological, political and forensic evidence of his role in the assassination and uncovers new witnesses, documents and photographs. Tuesday at 8 p.m on KVCR; 9 p.m. on KPBS; KCET.

The Kennedy Years--In Words and Music: Jacques Lowe’s famous photographs are featured in conjunction with the President’s words and music from the era. Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. and Thursday at 1:30 a.m. on KPBS; 9:30 p.m. on KVCR; Nov. 28 at midnight on KCET.

John F. Kennedy: Years of Lightning, Day of Drums: Gregory Peck narrates the acclaimed 1966 documentary. Nov. 22 at 4:30 and 9 p.m.

Investigative Reports: The Men Who Killed Kennedy: Bill Kurtis hosts a repeat of a 1990 special that features several eyewitness accounts of the assassination. Nov. 22 at 8 and midnight.

The End of Camelot: This two-hour special attempts to explain the nation’s 72 hours of pain and confusion surrounding Kennedy’s death through archival film, on-location footage and interviews with key insiders. Nov. 21 at 9 p.m.

November 22, 1963: Where Were You? A Larry King TNT Special Live From Washington: Larry King examines the impact of the assassination in this 90-minute special. Barbra Streisand, Warren Beatty and former President Richard M. Nixon are among those who discuss hearing the news of Kennedy’s assassination and the impact it had on their lives. Also included will be a live round-table discussion. At press time, Dan Rather, Kennedy’s former press secretary Pierre Salinger and former Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee were set to participate.
