State PTA President to Meet Local Leaders

A Simi Valley resident who is president of the state Parent-Teachers Assn. will be in Ventura County this week to meet with local PTA leaders.

Pat Dingsdale, who became head of the statewide organization in July, will begin her tour today with a visit to Thousand Oaks High School and will spend the next two days meeting with PTA leaders in cities from Simi Valley to Ventura.

Although Dingsdale lives in Simi Valley, her volunteer position as state PTA president causes her to spend most of her time in Los Angeles, Sacramento or meeting with other PTA chapters around the state, said Terry Belkin, first vice president of the 12th District PTA, which encompasses Ventura County.

“She visits the districts to find out what’s going on, what the concerns are out there,” Belkin said.

Among the concerns that local PTA leaders may discuss with Dingsdale are how to rebuild momentum for a new ballot initiative modeled after the defeated Proposition 170, which would have made it easier for school bond issues to win voter approval, Belkin said.

The PTA includes both the parent-teacher associations at elementary schools and the parent-teacher-student groups at junior high and high schools.

Ventura County has 30,000 PTA members, Belkin said.
