LOS ANGELES : Fear of Contamination Prompts Beef Links Recall

A Los Angeles food processing firm is recalling beef links because they may be contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday.
Soul Brothers Kitchen Inc. voluntarily recalled about 900 pounds of its Soul Brothers Beef Mild Links, which were distributed to grocery stores in the Los Angeles area, the department said. All two-pound packages with “Sell by 121593” stamped on the label were recalled.
No illnesses have been reported, but consumption of the bacterium can cause listeriosis, which can cause pregnant women to miscarry, agriculture officials said. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, backache and sometimes abdominal pain and diarrhea. Consumers may call (800) 535-4555 for information.
