“Once on This Island,” the touring Caribbean-flavored musical, won four of the NAACP’s annual Theatre Awards on Monday, including best play in the category that covers larger productions.

Long Beach Civic Light Opera’s production of “Into the Woods” also won four awards in the larger production categories.

Charlayne Woodard’s one-woman “Pretty Fire” won best play among the smaller productions. But it won only one other award, so its award total was topped in the smaller categories by three awards each for “Children of the Night” and “Steal Away.”
