STANTON : Applications Due for Planning Seat

Share

People interested in serving on the Planning Commission must submit their applications by 6 p.m. today to the city clerk.

Councilman Sal Sapien will review the applications and nominate someone to fill the seat vacated by Linda J. Pappas Diaz, now a council member. The City Council will consider Sapien’s nominee on Nov. 23. The nominee needs a majority vote of the council to be appointed.

Sapien said he would like to appoint a woman to the position, since Pappas Diaz was the only woman on the commission. At least three women have applied, but Sapien said he has not yet read all the applications.

The five-member commission meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. to consider land-use issues.

Applicants must be registered voters and Stanton residents. They also must demonstrate “an interest in the city and a certain degree of common sense and education,” Sapien said. The commission term expires in November, 1996.
