Robbers Kill Woman, Injure Husband at Store

The co-owner of an Army-Navy store was shot and killed and her husband wounded Thursday night in a gunfight with robbers, Los Angeles police said.

Neither of the shooting victims, described as in their 50s or 60s, was identified.

The woman, who suffered bullet wounds in the neck, chest, abdomen and legs, was pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Her husband, who was shot in the leg and hip, was in stable condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Humphrey said.

The attack occurred about 7:25 at Army-Navy Surplus Headquarters, 7015 Reseda Blvd., after two men apparently tried to rob the store, Officer Don Cox said.

It is unclear what led to the shooting, but the husband fired at least one shot at the robbers during the incident. “He’s pretty sure he hit one of them,” Cox said.

When police arrived, the assailants had fled, Cox said.
