Anaheim : Evaluation Delays Officer’s Sentencing
An Anaheim police officer was taken into custody Friday for a psychological evaluation--a move that delays his sentencing on charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Frank E. Stroobant, 45, a veteran motorcycle traffic officer, was convicted in September of a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor battery charge.
An Orange County Superior Court jury deliberated less than two hours before finding him guilty of attacking Riqui Sedoris, 44, earlier this year.
Sedoris, the mother of Stroobant’s young child, told jurors that Stroobant assaulted her and threatened her with a gun.
Stroobant’s defense attorney, Walter Posey, asked Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert R. Fitzgerald Friday to grant the officer a new trial, arguing that the verdicts in the case were not supported by the facts. Fitzgerald refused.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Wendy S. Lindley said the evaluation will assist the judge in determining Stroobant’s sentence.
Stroobant is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation, said Anaheim Police Lt. Marc Hedgpeth.
