SOUTHWEST ROUNDUP : Texas A&M; Ties Conference Streak

Greg Hill ran 94 yards for one of his two touchdowns and Corey Pullig passed for two scores Saturday as 10th-ranked Texas A&M; earned at least a tie for the Southwest Conference title with a 59-3 victory over Texas Christian at Ft. Worth.

Texas A&M;, 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the SWC, gained its 21st consecutive SWC victory, tying the record set by the 1968-71 Texas teams of Coach Darrell Royal.

TCU (4-7, 2-6), which lost for the 21st consecutive time to Texas A&M;, last beat the Aggies, 13-10, in 1972 at College Station.

In the first quarter, Pullig passed two yards to James McKeehan, Hill scored on a one-yard run and Pullig and wide receiver Tony Harrison connected on a 71-yard touchdown pass play.

Late in the second quarter, Hill ran 94 yards untouched for a touchdown, tying Bubba Bean for the longest run in A&M; history and third-longest in SWC history.

Hill had 125 yards rushing in 10 carries. He did not play in the second half.

Texas 38, Baylor 17--Mike Adams had 267 all-purpose yards and a touchdown and Tony Brackens had three sacks to lead the Longhorns at Austin, Tex.

Texas (5-4-1, 5-1) turned a defensive struggle in the first half into an offensive showcase by running at the heart of Baylor’s defensive line in the second half.

Baylor (5-6, 3-4) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of one and 14 yards by John Henry.

Texas avenged a 21-20 loss last year to the Bears at Waco that eliminated the Longhorns from bowl contention. Saturday’s victory sets up a Thanksgiving night showdown between Texas and Texas A&M; for the Cotton Bowl berth.

Texas Tech 58, Houston 7--Bam Morris rushed for three touchdowns and 223 yards to break Earl Campbell’s single-season conference yardage record as the Red Raiders routed the Cougars in a SWC game played at San Antonio.

Morris gained 1,752 yards this season, breaking Campbell’s record of 1,744 set in 1977 for Texas. Morris, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound junior, had a season-high 40 carries.

The Red Raiders (6-5, 5-2) are likely to receive an invitation to the Dec. 24 John Hancock Bowl at El Paso or the Dec. 31 Alamo Bowl at San Antonio. USC would be a possible opponent in the Hancock Bowl. Houston (1-8-1, 1-4-1) concludes its season Friday at Rice.
