Philip Morris Cos. raised its figure for planned job cuts under its previously announced restructuring plan to 10% of the 168,000 total work force, up from 8%. . . . Fieldcrest Cannon said it completed its tender offer for Amoskeag Co., its controlling shareholder, and adopted a “poison pill” aimed at thwarting any hostile takeover effort. . . . Alltel Corp. said its Alltel Mobile Communications Inc. unit signed a definitive agreement to buy a 10% stake in a Dallas cellular system from GTE Mobilnet Inc., a unit of GTE Corp., for $120 million. . . . Negotiators for the United Mine Workers union and the nation’s major coal companies returned to the bargaining table after a break for Thanksgiving. Officials have said for several days that the union and the Bituminous Coal Operators Assn. were close to a final agreement.
