COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Men Defeated in Finals of Tournament

The Chapman men’s basketball team trailed by just four points, 44-40, at halftime but eventually was done in by 48% shooting from the field as host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps rolled to a 92-74 victory Saturday in the championship game of its CMS Tip-Off Tournament in Claremont.

Chris Fosse had 19 points to lead Claremont Mudd-Scripps. Stefan Mumaw scored 20 points for Chapman (1-1)

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Utah 105, Southern California College 64--Southern California Christian was out of its league against Utah, which led by 27 points at halftime at Salt Lake City. Six Utah players scored in double figures. Jon Naro had 14 points for Southern California Christian (2-2).

With 22 seconds to intermission, SCC’s Scott Campbell bumped Terry Preston in pursuit of the loose ball and sent him into the courtside scoreboard, head first.

Preston was not seriously injured and quickly rose, but by that time the Utah bench had emptied. Order was quickly restored, and Campbell was charged with an intentional foul.

In the preseason Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament:

Southern California College 85, Point Loma Nazarene 65--Jamie Ziiterkopf scored 25 points, and Shawna McComb had 18 points for Southern California College in the consolation game at Fresno Pacific.

Fresno Pacific 83, Cal Baptist 51--Dana Coates had 22 points to lead Fresno Pacific (3-0) to the tournament championship.

Azusa Pacific 76, Concordia 61--Shannon Solway had 25 points for Azusa Pacific (2-1). Kikka Jarvelainen scored 19 for Concordia (0-3).
