Martin Holmqvist

Orange Coast, Fr.

Soccer / Forward

Holmqvist came to Orange Coast this fall as an exchange student from Halsingborg, Sweden, where he played soccer in several youth leagues. To the surprise of no one, he had little trouble fitting into the Pirates’ program. In fact, he quickly became one of the leaders of the team, which finished second behind Irvine Valley. Holmqvist, a second-team All-Orange Empire Conference pick, was the Pirates’ leading scorer with 14 goals. His final two goals came last Tuesday as Orange Coast lost to East Los Angeles, 5-4.

Other notables:

* Sean Amos had a career-high 35 points as Rancho Santiago beat Barstow, 97-81, in the Chaffey basketball tournament.

* Tes Whitlock made seven of eight three-point shots as Saddleback beat Cerritos, 84-79, in a nonconference game.
