Lynwood : 2 Minority Firms to Manage High School Construction

Share

Lynwood Unified School District officials have chosen two minority-owned firms to oversee the construction of a $95-million high school.

The school board unanimously awarded a $1.9-million contract to Vanir Construction Management Inc. of Sacramento and Mitchell/Jackson Construction Inc. of Los Angeles. The two firms were chosen from among a dozen companies that submitted applications for project and construction management services.

“It’s a plus that we have a minority team (because) this district is 98% minority,” said Patrick C. Butler, a consultant who acts as a contracts manager for the district. Vanir is Latino-owned and Mitchell/Jackson is black-owned.

The new campus for Lynwood High School is planned for a 32-acre site on Imperial Highway east of Bullis Road. The district expects to seek bids for construction early next year, Butler said. Work is expected to begin in late spring or early summer, with completion expected in late 1996.
