John Chaney should have no trouble getting his Temple players to listen this week.

After being told that defense and controlling the tempo would be decisive against Kansas, the seventh-ranked Owls played tough defense and controlled the tempo and dealt the third-ranked Jayhawks a 73-59 defeat Wednesday night at Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas (4-1), fresh off the Preseason NIT championship, had not lost a December home game in 10 years.

“It’s quite a win for us,” said Chaney. “It just shows we have a program at Temple, and it’s a great program.”
