Three men arrested in connection with a series of robberies of stranded freeway motorists were arraigned on several charges Thursday.

The men, all transients believed to have been living under a freeway underpass at the East Los Angeles interchange, were arrested Tuesday after Los Angeles police rousted dozens at the encampment and questioned 10.

Charged with armed robbery and personal use of firearms were Martin Pedro Varoso, 26; Jose Alberto Rosales, 23, and Nacascio Campos, 30. Additional charges were filed against Varoso and Rosales, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Karen Thorpe.

The men are accused in some or all of the five incidents, involving 11 victims, that took place beginning Saturday. Motorists whose vehicles had broken down on the freeway were approached by armed men and robbed. At least two victims received minor injuries.
