TWA Starts New Fare War: Trans World Airlines is offering fare reductions of up to 35% on all domestic flights. American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, the nation’s three largest carriers, first said they would match in competing markets and then decided to offer reduced fares throughout their domestic systems. TWA’s offer also applies to flights to and from San Juan, Puerto Rico and Honolulu. The offer, which limits travel times and carries other restrictions, is good from Jan. 6 to March 31. Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday. The best savings are available on non-peak flight days, with smaller discounts at other times. The number of seats available at the lower price will vary.
